Betting in Craps

As you learn more and more about craps you'll realize that there are more and more bets that you can choose from. These bets add color and flavor to playing craps. I have enumerated here some of the bets that can be made in craps.

Aside from the usual pass and don't pass bets, the come and don't come bets and the odds bets, there is also a number of other bets that can be played in craps. These craps bets are called proposition bets. They are located at the center of the craps table and they offer craps player a shot at bigger payoffs.

The horn bet is actually four bets rolled into one. It bets that the next roll will either be a 2, 3, 11 or 12. The craps player may choose to wager one unit of bet on each number or 2 units on one number and one unit on each of the other numbers. The payout depends on which number is rolled. Of course, it still has to deduct the losses from the other three numbers.

The any seven bet wagers that the subsequently dice roll of craps will yield a seven. This bet is also called big seven because of the number 7's red color in the craps layout table and pays 4-1.

A five combination bet that is a combination of both horn and any seven bet is called the world or whirl bet. The payoff is the same as the other two bets depending on which number actually turns up.

The bet that wagers that the result of the next roll will either be 12, 11, 10, 9, 4, 3 or 2 is called the field craps bet. Some casinos offer a 2-1 or 3-1 payoff on the 2 and 12. All the other numbers pay at even money. Field bets are craps bets that can be placed directly by the players.

Another bet that can be placed directly by the players are the big 6 or big 8 bets. These bets wagers that a 6 or an 8 will be rolled first before a 7 does. It pays even money. This is the reason why many veteran craps players consider these bets as sucker bets because the same proposition can be made by placing the 6 or 8 but with a higher 7-6 payoff. Some casinos don't even offer these craps bets.
